4x6 Inch Photo Box Insert Templates

This post is for template models to make inserts for this Photo Storage Box from Amazon. I've found it to be perfect for consolidating small board games with oversized or inconsistently sized boxes that clutter up the shelf, but they are by no means limited to creating game organizers. If you use these templates to make your own inserts, please post them as remixes!

File Info:

I have included the source .f3d files for direct editing, as well as .step models for importing into other CAD programs and .stl files just in case. The .f3d file also has hidden bodies representing the box base and lid.

There are two templates: one of a blank insert and one intended for cards. The card template fits standard US poker sized cards (2.5x3.5in), but the Fusion file allows very simple edits for other sizes. The card slots have open bottoms for visibility and to reduce plastic use.

Print settings:

I used two perimeters with no top or bottom layers and 4% honeycomb infill to reduce filament usage. This caused some distorted loose extrusion in the walls at the corners of card slots that I had to clean up with an x-acto knife. If the manual clean up is an issue, you could fix this by enabling top layers. Alternatively, you could use modifier bodies in OrcaSlicer to enable top layers in specific areas, which I did for token slots. 

Other notes:

Many games have rulebooks that are too large to fit nicely into the boxes. I keep these rulebooks in the larger storage box behind or under the photo boxes.

For bringing things to a game night, I've found it useful to take 9 games in the 4x6 inch photo cases and then fill the other side of the storage box with small-ish sized games such as Decrypto and Long Shot: The Dice Game. This can be seen in one of the pictures. There is also a picture of all the boxes that I consolidated with my first wave of inserts.
