Customize your own IKEA Helmer bins/storage boxes/organizer!

 

Feature:
  • Customizable size (from 1x1 up to 4x6, short/taller bins)
  • Stackable for smaller bins
  • Tabs for labels (width resizable, optional)
  • Slider for easier picking of small parts (also optional)
  • Dividers (any reasonable number of dividers are allowed)
  • Compatible with the original model (not tested but it should be)

Recreated dukedoks' Storage box Ikea Hack Helmer in Fusion 360.

 

Tab and Slider

To add/remove this feature, go to “Design History” which is located at the bottom of the app. then right click either Slider Extrude or Tab Extrude, then click Suppress Features to remove it, Unsuppress Features to add it.

 

Bin Size
  • To change the bin size, go to SOLID > MODIFY > Change Parameters
  • Change the value under Expression column

IMPORTANT:

  • OPTIONAL: For bins bigger than 1x1, right click the Grid Cutout in the Design History then select Unsupress Features (bins will have flat bottom when not unsuppressed)
  • For 1x1 bins, need to suppress it (already suppressed by default)
 

 

Divider
  • Enter zero for no divider
  • To add divider in X-axis, modify the value of divider_x
  • Modify divider_y to add divider in Y-axis

 

How to customize (best to watch a video on how to do this):
  1. Download Fusion 360
  2. Open F3D file
  3. Go to SOLID > MODIFY > Change Parameters to customize. Click OK when done.
  4. To export model, go to UTILITIES > MAKE then enter the ff:
     a. Selection: click the IKEA Helmer Bin Parametric v22 under BROWSER (left side)
     b. Format: Any
     c. Structure: One File
  5. Click OK then save it

 

These are the parameters that you can change:

  • bin_length
  • bin_width
  • bin_height
  • wall_thickness
  • tab_width: resize it according to your thermal label printer
  • divider_x: divider in X-axis
  • divider_y: divider in Y-axis

PS: Haven't tested it, there might some issues you'll encounter creating your models. I'm not that good at 3D modelling.

PS2: The bins don't sit flushed completely for bigger bins when stacked above smaller bins. Not a problem when stacked on same bin size. Might fix it when I have time.

PS3: Could be modified to fit on any drawers, not just on IKEA Helmer. Measure your drawer dimensions, divide it by number of bins you want it stacked side by side, and enter the value on bin_size parameter.
