Everybody knows hexagons make things better, right? So, it follows that to make the world a better place we're going to need a lot of hexagons, and I suspect that my printer isn't big enough to print quite that many. But what if we could make stencils so everybody can make as many hexagons as they like? And then make that stencil small so you can slip it in your pocket? I know, makes you think, doesn't it?
In the event of a hexagon depletion related emergency, do not panic! Simply remove Pointy's "walking hex stencil" from your survival pouch, and follow this simple procedure:
- Place the stencil on a sheet of paper sufficiently large to produce as many hexagons as your emergency situation dictates.
- Apply gentle pressure two of the pivot points.
- Mark the edge lines through the template with your favored writing/drawing implement and then mark a reference point through the hole in the center of the third pivot.
- Release gentle pressure from one of the two pivot points to which pressure was previously being applied and then rotate the template about the remaining anchored pivot until the second pivot point aligns with your reference mark. Re-apply pressure to this pivot point.
- Repeat from step 3 until an adequate number of hexagons has been produced.
- Optionally erase reference points, if time does not permit this then move on immediately to step 7.
- Deploy hexagons.
Tips
- Caution: a number of emergency situations cannot be rectified through the use of hexagons! Please use your own judgement as to whether slowly producing paper hexagons is an appropriate course of action in your specific emergency.
- Alternating pivot points will produce a pattern reminiscent of a chain of carbon atoms.
- Repeatedly rotating about the same pivot point will produce a hexagonal pattern.
- Important: On no account should you attempt to use the stencil as a pick while playing ukulele in a heavily populated area. Empirical evidence suggests that this can lead to injury and possibly permanent damage.
Ad infinitum et ultra.
