A while ago i saw an interesting video about how the Ames handlettering guide was used for drawing comic books. I thought it was a pretty clever tool.It is perfect for artists, designers, and hobbyists who enjoy hand lettering and technical drawings. Based on pictures and videos I designed this model to bring the functionality of the traditional Ames guide into the digital age.
The wheel probably needs to be scaled up or down to find the perfect fit. If the fit is too loose, simply secure it with tape to ensure it stays in position while you work. Just make sure the tape doesn't cover the holes you're planing to use.
Printed with PLA at 0.2mm layer height. 15% infill. Did a filament swap at layer 16 (3.2mm) to have the marks in a different color.
Designed to print in place but you might geht a better fitting wheel if you print seperately and then pop it in the guide.
How to use:
- Adjust the wheel to set your desired line spacing.
- Secure a ruler on your drawing surface to prevent slipping.
- Use the holes of the guide and slide it back and forth on the ruler to draw the guide lines
A detailed guide on how it works can be found here.
I hope you enjoy using this Ames Hand Lettering Guide for all your creative projects. Happy lettering!
