When restoring fountain pens I needed a tray that would keep the parts I am working on separated from the other parts of the pen but keep it all together. I was Inspired by a combination of the job trays seen in optometrists offices and watchmakers repair trays.

The tray has a flat working space with 2 parts bins that have curved bases to facilitate grabbing parts. The trays are stackable and the models are parameterized.

I would like to acknowledge @Pred_457770 for inspiration on the label concept. While not a direct remix I learned a lot from the uploaded files.

Printing

  • PLA
  • 0.4 mm nozzle
  • 0.2 mm layer height
  • No supports needed
  • When printing label I use OrcaSlicers text embossing feature on the blank stl. I also set ironing on.
  • If printing the label in 2 colours and you need a pause while using recommended settings the pause should be placed at layer 5

Parameterization

  • Model is designed with the assumption that the the stackable step part is smaller than the height of the dividers (i.e. (wall_height-divider_height) < divider_height). Violating this will break the model.
  • I have done my best to make the parameterization robust but this is my first model like this so go easy on changing things multiple times with repeated changes.

Version History

  • 2024-05-28 - Initial upload
  • 2024-06-03 - A lid was requested, I tightened up the tolerance on it a bit but it is still a loose fit like the trays, you will need to edit the f3d file to get a friction fit.
