I quite liked the designs of the thumb throttle as featured by Alex Huysegoms and its remix by Whimsii3D. However, I decided to add a heatset threaded insert instead of a nut.
As suggested by Alex for his design, I printed both these models using flexible filament. They were printed in 95A TPU 5 perimeters and 50% gyroid infill. With these settings I got a nice stiff thumb throttle with just a bit of flex for it to gab onto the throttle and be comfortable to use.
I used 3mm threaded inserts with the same dimensions as those sold by CNC Kitchen or Ruthex. Different ones might work, but your mileage may vary.
To install them, you will need to heat the insert up to a temperature a bit above your printing temperature (I installed mine 20°C hotter) using a soldering iron. Then simply apply light pressure and push the insert in using your soldering iron.
I also installed a washer under the bolt's head to more evenly distribute the pressure of the bolt into the material. An m3 washer fits snugly, I had to press mine into place by tightening the bolt with the washer underneath the bolt.
Install the thumb throttle on your bike's throttle with the thumbrest pointing towards your handlebar. Adjust the position of the thumbrest to where you feel like you can most comfortably use it. Tighten the bolt and you're good to go.
Happy riding!
I have printed, installed and verified a good fit for these models on a CB500X and a CL500 (US: SCL500). I have not been able to test this on other bikes.
