First, many thanks to Romain for inspiring this remix.
My grandsons only know full speed and sometimes stop. So, the yellow caution lamp was replaced with a sliding shutter, exposing either the red or green ‘lamp’. Gravity reared its ugly head in the first iteration requiring the addition of a detent spring to hold the shutter in the up position. The detent spring prints in place.
I opted for a two piece print such that the traffic signal's post can be printed flat for improved strength.
Assembly
- The red and green ‘lamps’ press fit into the signal. Ensure they are fully seated and are slightly below the shutter's sliding slot.
- Place the shutter in slot and test the detent spring action. If all is well, the shutter should slide smoothly with a nice snap action at the limits. (Prusa…thanks for adding ironing to PrusaSlicer)
- The cover snaps in place but I opted for a bit of Loctite 401 on outward facing surfaces of the tabs to ensure the cover cannot be removed. Don't glue the inside surface as excess glue may contact the shutter.
- Glueing the post to the track is optional.
The track fits IKEA Lillabo tracks but should be compatible with Brio and other wooden track sets. The Fusion 360 file is included if you need to tweak track dimensions for other than IKEA products.
