A colleague was culturing some phototrophic microorganisms in Hungate tubes in a similar tray/holder of his design. At some point, the holder broke apart due to long-term exposure to heat (backing oven lamp bulb as a light source).

Thus, the need for replacement appeared, but no drawings of the original parts were kept. This iteration of the replica has some modifications/improvements:

  • accommodates 16 Hungate tubes (the ones with a bit larger diameter)
  • allows to use of either a vertical position or an inclined at 12.5°.
  • utilizes holder for E14 light bulb
  • uses up to 8 straight M6 bolts as a spacer between the top and the bottom plates

Perhaps, it would be better if printed in PC (PolyCarbonate). Currently is made of PETG and no complains so far. Original idea belongs to [email protected].

Designed in Solidworks 2021. These models were designed as part of work at Wageningen University and Research.
