Summary

"L" is a 12.5cm square-shaped hydroponic planter. It is designed for growing herbs, strawberries, leafy vegetables, and other handy-sized plants. You need to water it once a week when you grow "planter-size" plants (12.5cm square).

As the plant holders are compatible with S (small), M (medium), L (large), and XL (extra-large) planter, you can use S for nursery plants and replant them in M, L, or XL after they grow up. You can also use Plantarium (lighting system) to provide compact yet effective lighting.

L could connect with the Raspberry Pi-based IoT kit below. The kit can measure water depth, CO2, light intensity, temperature, humidity, take photos, upload measured values and photos to Google Cloud (Google Sheets and Google Photos), and send summary and alert mails.

You can learn how to use it in detail in the Udemy course below:

How to use

Growing mediums

* You can use dishwashing sponges cut into 2.5 cm squares (refer to the attached image above).

Growing seeds / nursery plants

  • If you would grow plants from its seeds, be sure to prevent drying by covering seeds with toilet paper until the roots have grown out of the sponge. Refer to the attached image above.
  • You can use a small bowl to grow from seeds, as you can observe well the water level and the roots. Refer to the attached image above.
  • When you buy nursery plants instead of seeds, cut the sponge in the middle, wrap the plants, and set the sponge in the planter. Refer to the attached image above.

A depth sensor

  • VL6180 (depth sensor) can be attached to depth_sensor_attachment with M2 screws (8mm length) and M2 nuts. See the link below for instructions on how to use the sensor.

(The course is expected to be published in Q1 2023;)

  • When you don't use a depth sensor, instead of a "depth_sensor_attachment", use a "cap".

Food-safety standards

  • If you care about food-safety standards, you can apply a coating material that adapt to food-safety standards.

For further information, refer to the Udemy course below:

Print settings

  • Adhesion assistants: brim or raft for "tank" and "floor"
  • Infill: 20%
  • Filament Material: PLA (The clearances are adjusted for PLA.)
