This model is made of 5 parts. The arm (1) is the biggest structure that holds the pontoon. The pontoon (2) is a hollow part that can store water. The function of the pontoon is to act as a barrier in times the water level is dangerously high. When the Maeslantkering is extended in to the river, the pontoons are filled with water to be partially submerge in to the river. The pontoon will never be fully submerged in the water because the structure rests on the bottom of the river. This model was designed to be 3D printed. Therefore, a decision was made to make the pontoon out of three parts. You will find a bottom cap (3) and a top cap (4) to enclose the pontoon. The top cap houses a geared rail and cylindrical profiled tube to guide the pontoon locomotive. The pontoon locomotive is not a part of the model, but the geared rail and guide profile make it possible to design your own locomotive to move the Maeslantkering. The last part is the support structure (5) on the side of the pontoon.
