Introducing a 3D printable plastic part that allows you to turn any plastic film—like pouches, document pockets, folders, or bags—into a CPR mask! This innovative design is a handy solution for training scenarios, although I must emphasize that it is NOT a certified medical device and cannot be certified in any way. However, in all subjective tests on mannequins, this DIY CPR mask performs as well as commercially available CPR pocket masks.

How to Make Your Own CPR Mask:

Print Two Parts: You’ll need to print two components. If you want a splash of color, you can print the top part in colored filament. I used a single-color printer and programmed a pause to switch materials.

Prepare the Plastic Film: Take some plastic film (like a bag, document pocket, or folder) and sandwich it between the printed parts. The two parts should stick together by friction, so no glue is needed!

Cut Out the Mask: Use the channels designed into the part to cut the film into the shape of the mask (check out the picture in the gallery for guidance).

This mask works on the one-way valve principle, but I recommend experimenting with different types of plastic film to find the one that works best for you.

While this mask does not provide complete isolation from bodily substances, it certainly helps reduce the risk of contamination significantly.

Printing Material Recommendations: I suggest using food-safe materials for printing to ensure safety during training. Suitable 3D printing filaments include PLA, PP, co-polyester, PET, PET-G, HIPS, and nylon-6. Keep in mind that some materials, like PET, nylon, and PLA, can soften and distort at temperatures around 60-70 °C, so running them through the dishwasher isn’t advisable (more info on food-safe 3D printing can be found here).

This DIY CPR mask is particularly great for training purposes, first aid courses, and CPR instruction.
