Orange Pi Zero 2 case that makes the additional USB 2.0 ports available without the need for the official extension board. Remix of a design by RyanPie86. Dust filter shown in the photos not included, those can be found over here.

What you'll need for this project:

  • 8x M3 screws, 30mm long (case + fan w/ duct & filter)
  • 4x M3 screws, short (USB breakout boards)
  • 2x M3 screws (wall mount, optional)
  • 2x USB 2.0 breakout board (specific design, 17x17mm PCB size)
  • 8x GPIO cables
  • 8x Angled GPIO pins for the breakout boards
  • 1x 40x40x10mm 5V fan (3-Pin PWM is possible)

And of course

  • A soldering iron
  • Some solder
  • An Orange Pi Zero 2 w/ smaller heatsinks
  • Optional: Tiny zip-ties

Do NOT use PLA for this! The heatsinks inside will get way hotter than 60°C. I strongly recommend going with PETG or ABS.
Also don't mind the bad print quality on the photos, I'm a dork who used the wrong settings for PETG but didn't want to waste it either. 🙃

Double-check your USB pin cables before connecting something, a wrongly connected 5V can and will destroy something! Also make sure no cable gets into the fan, without one of the ducts this step can be a bit finicky.

The case can be put on the wall mount in any orientation.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

  • Replaced bottom plate with second case part to hold the USB 2.0 breakout boards & cables as well as holes for the wall mount
  • Added additional fan ducts
  • Changed the diameter for the installable fan from 30mm to 40mm
  • Added a simple wall holder
  • Slightly resized the I/O openings to accommodate small differences between boards
