I designed, inspired by various other models, this adjustable spool holder for 8 to ~20 mm shafts - I am using 8 mm threaded rods in my Ikea Samla Boxes.
The diameter of the spool hole and the number of wings (e.g. 6 for 50 mm and 8 for 72 mm) are parametric in the attached fusion 360 file. The minimum valid diameter (for 8mm axis) is 38 mm, I think there aren't any spools with smaller holes in the market. The 50 mm option fits tight but perfectly with Prusament spools.
The bearing is print-in-place and - after breaking free and with a drop of silicone oil - turns like hell. The inner and the outer parts of the bearing are on each side 0.16 mm apart, which works good for me. If this is to narrow or to wide for any other printer, this distance is also adjustable in the parameters of the fusion file. I also added a notch in the inner part for easy loosening with any suitable tool, I used scissors.
I printed these parts using (a cheap Chinese) PETG that, as far as I know, is a bit more flexible than PLA. No special settings in the slicer.
Finally, I also made the diameter of the shaft adaptable, only shown in the last picture.
I never printed one of these with a larger axis diameter, but it should work. Feedback welcome.
