Here in Adelaide Autumn is upon us and the school holidays are a good opportunity to catch up on a few jobs around the garden. Over the summer the curry tree had grown somewhat and now needs more support. The fence can get quite hot in summer, so rather than tie the young tree back directly to the fence we thought we'd try tying the existing stake to a conveniently situated fence post. Possibly a screw and some wire would have done the job, but never missing an opportunity to print a solution, I thought I'd run off a quick corner mounted tie-back.

Tips
  1. For me this is probably an interim fix, as I suspect that the tree will soon outgrow its support stake altogether, so I've printed this in PLA+, with just a couple of perimeters. If you're after something more permanent, I'd suggest upping the perimeters and using a material that's more UV tolerant.
  2. I used 2 x 8G x 20mm screws to mount the tie-back, plus a shoelace from an old pair of school shoes (reduce, reuse, recycle right?). The screws are offset and arranged at right angles, but I'd still recommend drilling a pilot hole to avoid splitting your fence post.
