After getting a dual-spool dryer i ran into an issue when trying to route one of the spools from the dryer to Tool 4 of the 5 tool Prusa XL.

This attachment allows to install two bowden tubes below the base of the Prusa XL which allows to reroute filaments form one side to the other.

Use cases:

  • Having filaments from  a single drying box on different sides of the printer
  • possibly setting up the Prusa XL without the right-side spool holders (e.g. next to a wall)

Note: Depending on the quality of the bowden tubes the additional path might add friction to the filament which probably has some impact on print quality maybe extruder wear.

Additional Material Needed:

  • 4x M4 T-Nuts for the Aluminum Extrusion
  • 4x M4 Screws to screw the parts to the extrusions
  • 4x M3 square nuts
  • 4x M3x8 or M3x10 screws
  • 2x ~55-60cm bowden tube

Installation:

Print the part twice and install it once on the left and once on the right side of the printer. The exact position can be chosen freely, depending on the length of bowden tube you have.

  1. Insert the square nuts into the corresponding slots. Make sure they are inserted all the way
  2. insert the M3 screws through the square nuts. Don't tighten them yet
  3. use the M4 T-Nuts and screws to screw the parts to the inside of the printer's bottom aluminum extrusion
  4. feed the bowden tubes through the holes in the printed part
  5. carefully tighten the M3 screws until you can no longer move the bowden tubes

Note: It can be helpful to have some filament in the bowdentube to test how easy it moves. Tightening the M3 screws too much can create a lot of friction which should be avoided.
