An unique Knob Wall accent piece. Each hex is a really satisfying knob shape that feels great in the hand and while moving the tiles around.
I really like how the Knob Wall looks with the shadows it casts, exactly the effect I was looking for. With different color knobs you can make some great patterns to compliment different room themes.
In the future I'll add more shapes + baseplate sizes.
For scale, each knob is 60mm from top to bottom.
Printing
The baseplate can be printed at any layer height, i used standard settings at 0.2mm. The file may need to be rotated to fit on the bed.
The knobs should be printed with a finer layer height to smooth out the knobs. I used 0.15mm, but finer could be nice. Variable layer heights would be a good option too.
Infill doesn't matter, I used rectilinear @ 15% so the tops of each knob have to print in midair. 3 walls is fine, and 2 would likely work too.
Assembly
Everything uses 10x2mm magnets to fit together. The Knobs should be a pressure fit, while the baseplates may take some glue to stay in place.
Test with printing 1 knob first. If the magnets don't fit, add hole compensation of ~0.1mm to fine tune. Glue can be used if it's too loose. Make sure the orientation is consistent before gluing anything.
The magnets are strong enough so that even if one falls it shouldn't cause others to fall with it.
Mounting
To mount on the wall, I used 3M velcro pads so i could remove the baselpates if needed, double-sided tape would also work. I cut the 3M pads so there was a little piece on the back of each baseplate corner with the pull tab half on the wall. Where 2 baseplates meet, the piece on the wall can bridge the plates.
Filament Usage
Knob = 15g each
Baseplate = 35g each
Full design as shown = 4 base plates + 36 knobs = 140g + 540g = 680g
