I always felt that Concordia, despite being the wonderful game that it is, is quite uninspired when it comes to its design. I don't care for the clunky meeples, and wanted to add some finesse and more of that ancient Roman empire vibe to my gameplay.
I wanted colonist meeples that don't have the military vibe, so no Roman soldiers would do, and I quite liked the idea of having them all being represented by a female figure, just to counter the underrepresentation of women both in games and the written history in general.
I found @GeoffreyMarchal's great work fit for the purpose, and after trying out a few of his scans I settled on this one.
A few things about printing this- please read:
- The resized model is 41.65mm tall, but you can of course resize it to your needs.
It does need supports, especially for the chin, and around the head. I have included the 3mf file with support enforcers where I felt it needed them most. Using organic supports is the best, although it adds considerably to the printing time (and filament use, although it's still very negligible 3g per meeple)
- At this size (unless you're printing in resin, maybe) this will still not offer you great level of face detail: I have printed mine with 0.4m nozzle and 0.05mm layer height, but I might do a comparison with 0.25mm nozzle later, or try to print it at an angle. But be warned, the face is not as beautiful as the original model…
Update 10/04/24:
I have tried printing this at an angle last night (see picture below), to see if I can achieve better resolution on face features, and yay, it worked! Still some weird artifacts, like a bit of a cauliflower ear, but this is such a small piece that I really am not expecting miracles with FDM printing, plus I like it more with the face more defined and no support marks.
So I have now added the .3mf file angled, if you want to try this version. The support enforcers are only at the base, keeping it off the build plate, nowhere else.
Also, added a version with a bigger base, as per request.
Now, to find a good alternative for the ships! Let me know if you have any ideas.
The author remixed this model.
