SHOBU (SHŌBU) travel board game

Introduction

I love this game, and it's getting sort of beaten up from getting carted around. I wanted a version that could be packed as small as possible without sacrificing playability. I went through a lot of marker designs before landing on the current design, which is pretty easy to pick up and move in spite of being quite small. 

You don't technically need the box or the lid for this game, but they do make a nice home for all the parts :). If the lid is a little snug at first, don't worry; it will become easier after a few uses.

While the code for the box is entirely original (new .scad library enclosed) it was heavily inspired by Arvin's https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:189264 customizable box.

Optional non-3d-printed materials

1. A small length of string (you'll want a skinny one that can easily fit into the box) is used to separate the “home rows” of each player. You don't really need this, but it's a nice touch.
2. If you want the lid to be a little more secure, you can embed magnets in the base and lid by pausing the print on the “-with-magnet-insets” models. The lid takes a 5x1mm (5mm diameter, 1mm deep) round magnet and the board takes a 5x3mm (5mm diameter, 3mm deep) round magnet or you could probably stack 3 of the 1mm magnets. I strongly recommend using neodymium or another strong rare-earth magnet.
3. There's a PDF for a small instruction sheet and cheat sheet that can be inserted into the box.
    

Printing Instructions

Board

You'll need to print a total of four boards, two each in different colors. The indents on the top benefit quite a bit from finer layer lines; I recommend using variable layer heights to get the base started with 0.2 and as fine as possible for the small bowls.

Markers

You'll need 16 markers each of two different colors (traditionally black & white) for a total of 32 markers. I recommend not using the same colors as the boards, as the markers will be easier to see when they stand out. I recommend using 0.10mm layer lines and ensuring that the first layer is also 0.10 layers.

Lid

You just need one of these, but there are a few options to choose. Printing a single color works great, or if you have a multi-material printer you can also load the “lid-text-for-multi-color.stl” part and make the box easier to identify. There are lid models with 5x1 magnet insets or without. Prints fine at 0.2mm layer height, and if you're insetting magnets, remember to pause at 1.6mm layer height :)

Box

You just need one of these, but there are a few options to choose. There are box models with 5x3 magnet insets or without. Prints fine at 0.2mm layer height, and if you're insetting magnets, remember to pause at 19.6mm layer height :)
