This is V2 of my joystick design. When I first made it I was quite inexperienced in 3d printing and was not aware of the common failure modes - well now it failed, and I have redesigned accordingly. The inserted hex nuts weakened the columns they were mounted in a lot and when it eventually broke (after some intense Pac-Man) it was exactly where the nut was inserted. Now M3 brass inserts are used and the columns that hold them are much thicker and stronger.
Joystick is a Sanwa style. The flat round dust cap for the stick fits into a recess in the top housing and is fitted before the stick is mounted. The sleeve and ball are attached from the top as usual. Remember to tighten the shaft into the ball before the base is attached.
The rectangular plate for the stick fits over four studs in the top part of the joystick housing. The mechanism is held in place by two supports that rise from the bottom of the joystick housing.
The buttons are 30mm, I have used Crown but snap-in buttons should fit also as long as they do not have the extended switches or terminals.
Cable is from an old Wico joystick.
5 brass threaded inserts are used in the base part. Five 8mm M3 bolts hold the stick closed from below. Stick rubber feet on the bottom.
