I'm planning to photograph the upcoming solar eclipse on Apr. 8th 2024 and needed to make a solar filter adapter/cover for my camera. I have a canon 70D with an 18-135mm lens. This hood adapter fits in the “grooves” of the lens and rotates to lock in place (just like a hood cover). I taped a 4"x4" solar film to the hood adapter using painter's tape as you can see in the pictures.
I'm providing the fusion 360 design file. It is parametric and you can adjust the size of the front square and the height of the main cylinder to accommodate different size filters.
I used PETG to print it. I placed the flat square side flush with the print plate and enabled supports for the “lips” that slot in the grooves of the lens. It took a couple of modifications for me to find the perfect size; this model fits perfectly on my lens and has a snug fit when it locks in place. I'm very happy with this one :)
Good luck!
