UPDATES
Auguest 31, 2024
Updated double-sided front storage clips
separate driver and passenger side version
NEW front storage bracket
3mf included with MMU settings for logo
Spans across the storage area between double-sided clips
261mm long, but I printed diagonally
Provides 2 clip attachments for cup holders or cup clamps
I use a regular size cup clamp on the right side and put a small kleenex box on the left.
NEW 35 degree angle adapter
Use with front storage bracket to hold water bottle at 35 degree angle (off vertical)
Cup Clamps are a success
I have cup clamp models for all the regular sizes, but I found that using the “regular” size one works great to hold onto most water bottles. I use the xlarge version (110mm) to hold onto my giant 64oz water bottle (125mm). These require something like PETG for the flexibility.
NOTE: I'm abandoning the “lock” version of the cup holders. I'm not sure they're necessary with the tighter nubs on the clips and they were fragile anyway. The existing models will be moved into the Archived folder.
August 26, 2024
Increased size of nubs on clips for stronger grip (they now match what Rob@OpenSource EV uses).
NEW small size cup that more tightly fits coffee cups (as seen in my Ninebot Cup Holder remix) that is 68mm ID on bottom and 75mm ID on top.
NEW front double-sided clip
One unit with clips facing inside the storage area and outside.
There's also a new double clip pin model that wedges between the double clip and the sidewall to help keep the clip from being able to rotate off. It won't stop it completely, but it does make the connection stronger.
NEW Experimental Cup Clamps (Success)
These are effectively just the top portion of the cup holders. These can be used with the new front-double clip to hold onto drinks inside the front storage area.
Great way to hold water bottles and let the bottom rest on the floor.
No supports needed.
NEW Experimental Clip-On Springs (Failed)
This spring that can be clipped to the top of the cups or clamps and proves a spacer inside the cup. This lets smaller diameter items be placed inside and hopefully won't rattle around. I was using 4 per clamp but they never really worked well. I've abandoned this idea for now.

Models have not changed.
Updated PrusaSlicer (.3mf) settings:
compatible with MMU to allow colored logo
added paint-on organic supports for the arms of the cups for greater stability. I have noticed the front arms will flex some while printing and this seems to stabilize things.
May 19, 2024
Added a new xlarge size that is 110mm ID and 116mm tall, upon request.
April 25, 2024
I've made a few tweaks to hopefully make things better:
The V2 clips to no longer require supports on the curved edges. Instead of a full curve, they're a combination of a chamfer and a fillet to ease printing.
The tolerance between the clip face where the male side of the connector is attached is now closer to the female side. I had forgotten to look at this when I made the V2 changes and left a nearly 1mm gap. Hopefully this reduces any chance of deformation over time and produces a tighter fit (but hopefully not so tight you can't get it apart!).
All of the cups in the .3mf have the Rivian logo embedded in them now if you want to print it with that. If not, just remove them in the slicer.
April 16, 2024 - Version 2!
Introducing Version 2 of my cup holders! They're light grey in the photos. The black ones are version 1, which are functionally the same so I didn't bother taking new photos. The TLDR of the changes:
new connector design for cleaner prints (not compatible with V1, unfortunately)
all clip connectors have bumps on them for a tighter, snap fit.
new front window clip
new extra long door pocket clip
new optional locking tab on cups
new Jumbo size cup.
What changed?
The main motivation for the updates was around cleaner prints. So most of the changes that developed was a result of that goal. I wasn't happy with the amount of supports needed for the clips and how they would affect the fit. The following changes resulted:
Clips
The clip connectors (male and female sides) were redesigned to now only require a very thin (3mm wide) support should remove very cleanly. *** As such, V1 and V2 connectors are incompatible with each other. Sorry! ***
The clips all have small bumps on them to allow for a tighter, snap fit.
I added a new window clip that fits the 1st row windows (they're slightly shorter than the 2nd row ones).
I lengthened the door pocket clip, as it seemed to be a little unstable.
I added a long version of the door pocket clip to allow for even taller water bottles and lower the center of gravity for more stability.
There's no more front storage v1 design.
Cups
The cup side of the connectors now come with an optional locking tab.
The tighter fit of the new clips means you really don't need the locking version, but I'd already modeled it, so it's an option.
There's a “key” that can be inserted to depress the lock while you slide the clip out so you don't have to shove a fingernail in there while you disconnect them.
The base of the cups were unnecessarily thin where they meet the walls. This resulted in some cups breaking in my testing. This has been corrected and now maintains the same thickness as the base transitions to the wall.
The cup height is now dependent on the circumference of the cups to maintain a consistent 45 degree angle on the bottom of the arms for cleaner printing. This means the height dimensions are slightly different than before (prior, they were 100mm tall).
The cup models were fixed so now the walls can be vertical, which they now are for the larger ones, as they're designed for straight-sided water bottles.
I added a Large Plus size, which is just slightly bigger than Large in case you use a water bottle with a silicone sleeve.
I added a Jumbo size now (mostly for comedic effect) that can accommodate a 64oz water bottle I have. That water bottle weighs 5.75 lb (~2.6kg) full of water! It's the black water bottle in the photos (which was full of water).
I published a Rivian Logo model that is included in the .3mf to emboss the logo on the inside of the cup. If you don't want this, just delete it from the model in your slicer.

Printing
All of the V1 printing instructions (below) should work fine except:
You shouldn't need to use the rear seam position for the clips. Aligned position pretty much does the right thing now.
The Jumbo size is a bit hard to print cleanly because the arms are so large and flex. I've now included paint-on organic supports in the .3mf that helps hold the arms in place. Highly suggested to use this.
Original Design:
The second row of a Rivian is seriously lacking in places to put drinks. If you've got 3 passengers, you can't use the middle fold-down where the only cup holders are. So I've designed a system of clips and cups to be able to add drink holders pretty much anywhere you can think of. If I've missed a location, let me know and I can make more. Just choose which size cup you need and where you want to put it and attach the appropriate clip for that location.
CUPS
There are two cups that should fit pretty much any size drink you want. I've tested them with nearly everything in our house and one of the two sizes works for nearly everything. The only exception are the super wide coffee cups that are wider than a 40oz water bottle.
Regular size is 79mm inside diameter on top, 71mm inside diameter on bottom.
Large size is 92mm inside diameter on top, 91mm inside diameter on bottom.
Both sizes have a roughly 20mm widge gap to allow for handles and to let the arms flex a bit to fit more cup sizes.
The regular size is your everyday size which accommodates most normal cups like you'd get while on the go or even the double-insulated pint glasses like the green Stanley one in the photos.
The large size is meant to handle your 40oz water bottles. It's also a great size for coffee cups with handles on the side (white coffee cup in photo above).
CLIPS
There are clips for as many locations in the car as I could find in my R1S that I could find. If you have another suggestion or something doesn't work out, just let me know and I can add another one. Each clip was designed to position the cup perfectly level. Obviously with the weight of a full cup, that will adjust some.
Window
The window clip lets you hang a cup holder from the window sill. There's actually a small gap with weather stripping it fits into, separate from where the window is. When it's installed it sits a few millimeters away from the window and does not affect its use. The wood trim on the doors actually protrudes slightly beyond everything else, so I designed the clip to rest on the leather portion to not scratch the wood.
Seatback
This obviously fits on the back of the seat in front of you. It uses a 22.5 degree angle to try to level out the cup, which seemed to be a good balance between where my wife and I keep our seats reclined.
Door Pocket
This one clips onto any door pocket. One of the photos shows it in use in the second row, but works just as well in the first row.
Front Storage
Version 2
Version 2 is an update to try to make it more secure. Since the trim on the storage area is essentially an acute trapezoid, there's nothing really for the V1 clip to hold onto. But there are two pieces of trim that meet on the edge so V2 here uses that fact and wedges itself between the trim pieces. It works best to attach it by angling it up by about 45 degrees, hook the back onto the edge, then while holding the clip firmly onto the edge, lower the cup. About half way down it should snap down the rest of the way as the clip slides between the two trim pieces.
Version 1
This clip hangs onto the front storage area on the floor between the driver and passenger. It's useful to have a place to put your water bottle or cup that's too wide for the included cup holder. Due to the shape of the edge, however, it just hangs there and is easily knocked off as you pull your drink out. I found that applying a little strip of rug anti-slip rubber tape to the back of the clip will hold it in place much better and also eliminates any noise from plastic-on-plastic (that stuff is awesome, btw, and useful in so many instances).
Printing
I'm including my .3mf for PrusaSlicer with the settings I use. Feel free to adjust as needed, but here's also a breakdown of what's included in the .3mf and how I printed what's in the photos:
Use PETG, ASA, or ABS for better heat resistance and for the cups to flex a bit.
general settings
0.6mm nozzle (MK4 w/ Input Shaping profile)
0.2mm STRUCTURAL profile
4 perimeters
gyroid infill pattern at 15%
40mm/s small perimeter and external perimeter speeds to get more consistent outer surface finish
rear seam position
clip settings
each clip should be positioned on it's side for proper strength
I rotated each clip so the rear seam would be in a good spot
enable supports (snug)
cup settings
no supports are necessary but for the larger cups it can be helpful to add paint-on organic supports about half way up the front arms to keep them from flexing while printing. These are now included in the .3mf file.
0.32mm layer height
2mm minimum bottom shell thickness (so it does not print 1 layer of infill then have to do a bridging layer)
aligned seam position
I used a 0.6mm nozzle to speed things up, but here are some print stats for my MK4 to print everything included:
0.6mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer for clips and 0.32mm for cups:
264 grams
7h53m
0.6mm nozzle, 0.32 layer height for all:
267 grams
6h39m
0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height for all:
256 grams
12h31m
Note: I used California Filament's Matte Black PETG in the photos.

I liked the cup design, so made my own variant of it to be able to have a normal and large size for water bottles, in an effort to make cup holders for my car. I tried to use the same clip design as the original, but ended up remodeling it to print cleaner.
