Pc Fan Soldering Filter

This is a soldering air filter that you can make with an old 120x120mm pc fan. The power consumption is very low (12v 0.09amp for 1.08w) and the fan is very quiet if you use the same as mine. 

For this project you will need :

4x M3 threaded inserts (max 6.5mm deep)

4x M3 screws with a length of about 7-8mm

4x M2 threaded inserts (max 19.5mm deep)

4x M2 screws with a length of about 10mm

1x 120x120mm square of carbon filter (just cut a piece)

1x old 120x120mm old computer fan or a new one

1x switch

1x 12v jack connector

1x 12v power supply (you realy don't need a big amount of apms, 1-2amps is fine)

1x each 3d printed parts

Assembly instructions :

1. Put all the threaded insert in place with a soldering iron.
2. Install the 120x120mm square of carbon filter in te piece with the hexagons. There is a small extrusion to prevent the filter to pop off this piece. Be sure that the filter is beyond this extrusion.
3. Place the four M3 in the oppening of each corner of the fan and screw the fan in place. Make sure that the cables are facing in the inside of the case.
4. Cut the wires of the fan and take only those with the two polarities. These cables should be red or yellow for (+) and black for (-). If there is no colors try with a multimeter the cables and if the multimeter doesn't work, try connecting the wires in a order till the fan spins.
5. Solder the two good wires of the fan to the power source. The (+) goes directly in the jack connector. The (-) pass by the switch first and then the second connector of the switch goes to the jack connector.
6. Try your fan with the switch. Plug the power supply and turn on the switch. If it doesn't spin, check your connections. If the fan spins in the wrong direction (air should not go out the case), try switching your (-) cable with your (+).
7. Close the case with the four M2 screws. 
8. Good job, your soldering air filter is done!
