This is a 3D printed magnetic fabric and/or pattern fastener. With this tool, it is easier to hold pieces of fabric or patterns together without the need for pins. Pins can sometimes damage or be difficult to use with some fabrics (such as satin, leather, fur, upholstery, specialty fabrics and more).  Magnets allow sewers to pin fabric layes together without damage.  It is also much faster and easier to place or remove these magnets that it is to place or remove sewing pins. The edges on the magnet are champhered so it doesn not scratch or dammage the fabric with sharp corners. Commercialy, these sell for almost $5 each, but if printed, it  can cost as little as 3 cents if you already have the availble magnets!

This model was created in OnShape. It is possible to change the dimensions of the 3D model using the set varribles. This enables you to use the magnets you already have at home! Just input you dimensions of the magnet size, and OnShape wll create the rest for you! Varibles are great way to give people a way to change the dimensions of an object to fit their specific needs. Also, If you cannot open Onshape (or dont have an account), there are a few files with the most common magnet sizzes listed. If you want me to add a different size of magnets to the file list, please leave a comment stating the dimmensions that you wish for.

Click this link below to acess the Public onshape document if you wish to edit its dimensions. (you will need an account) https://cad.onshape.com/documents/1b805fe44e8863c996a45603/w/15deecaf5c1b7c3731fa40c4/e/e60a7055de32dd2bf7e6a2ad

Or in the Public Document's page, search Magnetic Sewing Fasteners / Pins

In order to change the varibles, click the blue buton in the top righthand corner that says “Make a copy to edit”. Then change your varibles. To export it, right click the object and select export.

Durring the middle of the print, the magnets must be inserted and glued into place. Pause the print 1mm from the top of the print. Also durring slicing, a warning will appear stating that there are "open edges". This is just because of the hole inside the object. Ignore this warning and slice as usual.

Happy sewing!
