A simple foot prop that I made to elevate the Qidi X-Smart 3 printer slightly higher away from the surface. The measurements are random and have no specific reason behind them, I just made them based on what I felt was right for me.

I was going to replace the feet on my printer with a 3D printed file but decided to just make a foot prop that I can remove easily when I need to, and also not run the risk of misplacing and losing the original feet.

Note: Please ignore the unit of measurement in the screenshots included. I use Blender to make my 3D files and the default unit of measurement in Blender, that happens to match to millimeters in the real world, is in meters. All measurements are approximate.

Here are some details of the foot prop -

  • The foot prop elevates the printer by about 11.2mm high off the surface.
  • The base diameter of the prop is about 29 mm
  • The diameter of the top of the prop is 19.6mm
  • There is a wall around the top of the prop that is 2.8mm high and about 2mm thick. This is to prevent accidental slipping of the printer due to its motion while printing.

You can use the foot props as is without any adhesion, but I preferred for them to stick to the feet of my printer, so I used 3M outdoor double sided tape to secure them together. I also realized that the bottom of the props are pretty slick, especially if your surface is very smooth, so I added some adhesive foam sheet that I cut to size to the bottom of the foot props to add some friction.

Print any way you want with any material. I happened to have PETG hooked up to the printer, so I used that. Just make sure you use a sturdy and well bonding material, you wouldn't want the foot props to split over time and fall off in the middle of printing. I did 30% infill for a more solid feel.
