Background:
I missed a quick release cable for the X-LCD screen of the MK4 in the Original PRUSA enclosure. I like the quick release idea for the powersupply with a single connector. Prusa unfortunately has currently not such solution for the LCD when mounted on the outside of the enclosure. I like the display mounted externally better than leaving it fixed inside on the printer). The original display cable is not meant to be removed once it is installed and the tiny connectors on the PCBs may break when removing them more than a few times.
So I found this solution by @bluex: https://www.printables.com/de/model/612910-mk4-lcd-quick-release-cable/comments
After some failures with a learning curve I managed to crimp the D-Sub connectors successfully. It helped to have the right tool: I bought the HT 214 IDC crimping tool for this job (Amazon link)
Cables and Connectors are exposed and unprotected (and that doesn't look very nice).
I wanted a removable cover to hide and protect the cables /connectors. Thus I designed this snap-on cover (SHAP3R3D Software).
It stays in place just by pressing it on the heads of the two mounting M3 screws that hold the bigger connector plug (See picture). You have to take care when putting the cover on to really align the holes of the cover with the both M3 screw heads. Otherwise the cover is loose. And of course you have to install the screws that hold the plug with their heads up, so that the corresponding nut is on the bottom side of the metal plate.
The snap-on cover can be taken off without tools.
If you like you can add a decorative Prusa logo on top.
The logo is printed separately and is completely optional. It prints in color without MMU. Just change Filament to Orange after the black base layers are completed.
I printed it in PETG because I wanted some flexibility of the material PLA may work aswell.
Please let me know if you ever should need a longer or shorter version of this cover because your printer sits slightly different in the enclosure than mine. I will then make a modified version for your needs..
Please show me your results and send me fotos of your makes. I like to see how you use this model. If you have ideas for improvement don’t hesitate to send them to me in the comments. I will try to incorporate your suggestions and will modify the model for special needs if you ask me to do so.
And of course a like ♥ or a rating ⭐ of the design are always welcome.
happy printing, clamikra
