This is a clip you can attach on one side to a cable. On the other side, you can clip in all the windings of the cable when you wind it up such that it stays tidy.

This includes the OpenSCAD model to customize this for different cable sizes. This has two parameters:

  • cd: The cable diameter. You should add some tolerance here, to allow the clip to move freely back and forth on the cable. I chose 5mm diameter for a 4.2mm cable and 3.8mm for a 3.2mm cable.
  • sc: Scaling. Make this larger if you need more windings to be stored in the clip or smaller for less.

I attached two STL files I used for the cable sizes mentioned above.

Alternatively, if you want the clip to scale up with the same factor as the cable diameter you may also just scale the model inside your slicer directly.

For robustness and flexibility, I printed this with PETG and filled everything up by increasing perimeters up until no infill was needed any longer.

The model does not need any support and other parameters like layer height are probably not relevant.
