These two short videos explain everything:

New as of April 1, 2024 —  The following additions and improvements were made:

  • Added a new, larger box for storage of all the factory accessories that ship with AD5M.
  • Tweaked the back “mount” portion of the smaller box (the one for nozzles) (as well as the new box), so it can work with stock flat-head screws that were provided by factory to mount the spool holder. Previously it worked with cap-head screws.
  • Added a new second mount that can allow two boxes to be hung on back of one printer, one using the screw holes originally intended for the spool holder, and another mount for a second set of unused screw holes lower down on the printer.

Cool storage for four nozzles for Flashforge Adventurer 5 (AD5M).

Uses 1.75mm filament as the hinge pin.

Two options to choose from:

  • Box and lid
  • Box and lid that mount onto back of AD5M printer, whenever the DIY printed enclosure is in use.  NEW as of April 1: added an alternate mount that uses two other spare holes on the back of the printer!

Print settings

Print as oriented. Prints without need of supports. I used 10% infill on the lid, and 15% infill on the base and the mount. I used 2 perimeter walls, with a 0.4 mm nozzle.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT LAYER HEIGHT:

I printed with 0.2 mm layer height. If a thicker layer height is attempted, such as 0.28mm, it will make the hinge holes too small for the hinge pin (the 1.75mm PLA piece) to be inserted. My advice is to stick with no thicker that 0.2mm on layer height.

Installation for mounting to back of AD5M

The DIY printed enclosure mounts the spool holder in a different spot, which frees up the two screw holes that formerly attached it. The mount in this design is intended to attach by using those same screw holes.  NEW as of April 1: added an alternate mount that uses two other spare holes on the back of the printer! Attach the mount with two screws, M3 x 8mm or M3 x 10mm, and then slide the box base onto the mount. That's it. You're done.

Change Log

  • March 30, 2025 — Had to replace the “PLATED SET (larger for accessories)” file because it contained a wrong file. Somehow I had accidentally uploaded a base for the box that was 2.1mm too short. The stand alone file was correct. This is now fixed. Kudos and thanks to @zcapers_3104688 who found and pointed out the error.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

  • Sockets were for Flashforge Adventurer 3 / 4 nozzles. AD5M nozzles would not fit. Enlarged socket holes slightly, so now works for AD5M. May still work for 3 & 4 (but I cannot confirm that as I don't have any AD3 or AD4 printers).
  • Added an option to mount to back of printer on AD5M whenever the DIY printed enclosure in use (which frees up the screw holes that formerly attached the spool holder). NEW as of April 1: added an alternate mount that uses two other spare holes on the back of the printer!
  • Original base was not a “solid” model (not a water tight shape), so it threw errors in the slicer software. Fixed.
  • Original had rounded edges against the print bed on both the base and lid, which caused steep overhangs, and thus didn't print well. Fixed.
  • Sockets for nozzles were not evenly spaced. Fixed.
