A while ago I got hold of a cheap roll of wood-filled PLA of a cheap brand. I didn't really have a plan on what to print but I had some ideas. This is the result of one of my ideas.
This barrel consist of one top and one bottom part. It has 16 boards on the outside and is locked in place with 4 rings.
I have 2 versions of the board:
- one that locks into the next one, I used it on the blue barrel and it works fine. It can be assembled without the fixture but it takes some patience.
- one that does not lock into the next one, the only reason for this is that the wood-filled PLA did not print with the same accuracy as the regular PLA and the locking simply didn't print that good. For this one I recommend the fixture to hold one side while assembling the other side, once one side is assembled, you can install the second side and the rings. This one definitely takes some patience!
Assembly:
- assemble the boards around the top and the bottom.
- place the ring on the barrel, one at a time. push it down and it should snap in place. It does require some force, but even PLA can stretch enough.
Printing:
- top and bottom, print with the outside against your print bed.
- rings can be printed as they are.
- the boards should be printed laying one one of the sides that meet the next board.
Let me know how it works out.
