PDF

This is a ball/socket mounting plate for a TomTom GPS. It was designed to be compatible with most TomTom GPS products.

There are two types of mounts:

  • A ball mount, for mounting your TomTom into a ball socket.
  • A threaded socket mount with tightening collar, for mounting your TomTom onto a ball.

This model is intended to be customized, which is why the OpenSCAD file is included. Nevertheless, I provide mounting plates for a 17 mm ball, which is what I have. It is likely that your ball size would be different.

Three OpenSCAD files are required, the primary tomtom_adapter.scad script and two library files:

Put these files in the same folder as tomtom_adapter.scad or put them in your usual OpenSCAD library folder.

Print settings

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.2 mm layer height or less

Infill: 30% cubic or gyroid

Note: Use at least 3 perimeters. PLA is not recommended; the fingers around the ball break too easily. PETG or ABS work better.

Post-printing

Before assembling, rub some wax from a crayon or candle into the threads. You don't need to gum up the threads with wax. Just apply enough on to lubricate the threads. Some types of plastic have high self-friction.
