Extra analog thumbstick/joystick for the Playstation Access controller.

For each stick, you will need:

Any thumbsticks compatible with Arduino/PS2/PS3/PS4 can be used if one is not included with the joystick module.

A wide variety of 3D-printable accessible joysticks, including sticks, balls, goal-post, and chin-operated versions can be used with the HandiAdapter here:

Assembly instructions:

NOTE: For the push-switch to operate correctly, the joystick is wired with the opposite polarity to the Arduino (VCC/GND swapped), and the cable connector at the top.

1. Wire the 3.5mm 4-pole connector to the Dupont connector as follows (for details see https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/hardware/access-specifications/):

  • Sleeve (Vdd) to pin 1 (marked as "GND" on the joystick)
  • Ring 2 (Gnd) to pin 2 (marked as "+5V" on the joystick)
  • Ring 1 (X-Axis) to pin 3 (marked as "VRX" on the joystick)
  • Tip (Y-Axis) to pin 4 (marked as "VRY" on the joystick)

2. For the push-switch, wire the second 3.5mm connector tip to pin 5 of the Dupont connector (marked as “SW” on the joystick). Only a single wire is needed - do NOT connect the sleeve/R1/R2 pins to the joystick. If using a 4-pole connector instead of a 2-pole connector, connect the sleeve/R1/R2 pins together but NOT to the joystick.

3. Test the joystick by connecting it to the Access controller and configuring a profile to set the external port as Left or Right stick. If using the push-switch, set the second external port to Triangle. Start the "Astro Playroom" game on the PS5 and select "Controller Demo". The image of the controller should show the joystick move in the correct directions and the triangle button being pressed. Check that the full range of motion is correct and that the joystick centers correctly.

4. Clip the joystick module into the base, angling it so that the pins align on one side before pressing down on the other side. Feed the cable through the cable guide, and fit the thumbstick/joystick, before finally clipping on the top. Check that the joystick has the full range of motion. Use the top with the larger joystick hole if necessary.
