Perhaps some of you are also looking for a new use for your old enclosure.

I liked the idea of  using IKEA Lack as a printer enclosure (Prusa Enclosure V2 - MMU2S) and after using it for a while, I switched to this version ikea-lack-enclosure and so I had the parts left and didn't have to buy or print anything else.

After designing many models, I needed a photo box to take pictures, so I designed a turntable and now a simple bracket to convert my enclosure to a photo box.

The background is still a little wavy and needs some more time to relax and the LED strips to illuminate the model from the front have not yet been installed, but the box already works very well, as you can see.

BOM:

  • 2x IKEA LACK
  • 2x prusa_mmu_enclosure_1.3mf
  • 3x MDF 3mm panels  (475mm X 440mm) for the sides and the back
  • 2x MDF 3mm panels  (468mm X 220mm) for the doors
  • PVC sheet. I used this (affiliate link): https://amzn.to/462IqCe
  • Of course, you can also cut the sheet slightly wider so that the box is completely lined.
  • A lamp with diffuser. I used an IKEA BARLAST for 5€
  • Additional LED strips to illuminate the object from the front (not installed in the pictures)
  • At least 4 brackets for fixing the PVC sheet. The STL is already aligned. Use PETG!

Assembly:

  • Check the article with build instructions, search for “Everything is included in Prusa_MMU_enclosure_1.3mf” to see how the parts are mounted.
  • Adapt the instructions to build a single box
  • I did not used any magnets for the hinges, as they are expensive and not really needed (imo)
  • With this model, you can also save on the screws for the hinges: Screwless hinge pin

Use countersunk screws ( head diameter <7mm) to attach the brackets so that the screw heads are not in the way later.

In contrary to the next pictures, I screwed the brackets a little deeper so that I could use the cut-outs to route the cable to the outside.
I used glue stick/some wood glue (both dissolved in water) to glue the aluminum foil
I covered the sides with aluminum foil (so that the matt side faces inwards)

During assembly, however, I realized that it wasn't a good idea to attach the foils beforehand as the assembly is a bit tricky and the panels have to be pushed into the holders.

As a result, the aluminum foil was torn off again at the corners :/

I recommend sticking the aluminum foil to the side parts AFTER assembling the box.

Cut the sides of the PVC sheet so that it fits into the box.

The sheet has a thickness of 0.3mm and is quite robust. It therefore takes some time for it to relax. I used some adhesive strips to speed things up a bit.

I initially only used one bracket at the front until the sheet has relaxed. More brackets were added later.

They act like a doorstop.
