Crazy Rabbit Chess --The Bunny's Gambit

This project was born from the Monday Makes challenge on The LM Show Discord channel. The models being used for the Monday Makes weekly challenge were from the ‘Easter bunnies / easter rabbits’ post by Makkuro. When working with the models, I couldn't help but notice that some of them could be made into fun chess pieces--with a little modification. This is the result: Crazy Rabbit Chess.

The chess pieces are easy to print and do not require supports. Use whichever filament and colors you wish. Your imagination is the limit. If you need a chess board I have included printable board components; the slim version of the board will print a bit faster than the standard one. The included chess board is 280mm square. Glue the alternate colored squares in place. Gloop! is the best adhesive to use, but CA glue (superglue) or Canopy glue are good alternatives. If you have a printer with a smaller build surface, then scale the chess board down to fit in your slicer. Don't forget to also scale the pieces down by the same amount.

Print (1) King, (1) Queen, (2) Bishops, (2) Knights, (2) Rooks, (8) Pawns for each opponent side of the board. Two contrasting colors are recommended. Obviously, the traditional chess colors are black and white. My daughters chose the colors seen in the uploaded pictures. Our colors created a kind of Alice In Wonderland theme. Make yours something fun too!

I printed the chess board parts with 0.2mm layers, 3 walls, and 10% infill. The chess pieces were printed with 0.2mm layers, 3 walls, and 15% infill. 

To make things even easier, go find that cardboard chess board that you have in the closet or on a forgotten shelf in the basement. Print the chess pieces and you have a new twist for an old board. Now hop to it!!!

Models from three other makers were used to mash-up a fun chess set for everyone's enjoyment. Based on animated characters from a popular video game series, these crazy rabbits are yours to march into battle on the chess board. The chess board itself is derived from the Mateusz Wojtasik chess set and has been re-scaled to accommodate the bunny chess pieces. The bunnies are by Makkuro. The chess piece parts added to the bunny models are from the set by Vdkar Auto Glass Replacement. Classic chess piece tops and more stable bases were created from those models.
