I finally decided to publish some of the lures I designed and rapid prototyped a few years back.

This topwater stickbait / pencilbait has a length of 7cm / 3'' and weights approx. 7g / 1/4oz without hooks. I already caught many perch and asp using them.

If you don't have the tools and experience building lures, this probably is not the right project.

Tools:

  • round pliers
  • superglue
  • small claps or vise
  • paintbrush

Hardware:

  • 0,8 mm stainless steel wire
  • 1x 6,35 mm steel bearing ball
  • 2x 4 mm steel bearing ball
  • 2x 5 mm round lure eyes
  • colors (e.g. spraypaint, airbrush, pens)
  • epoxy resin

Printsettings lurebody (important):

  • placement: on flat side
  • Nozzle Diameter: 0.4mm
  • layer height: 0,1mm
  • Infill: 10% Rectilinear
  • Perimeters: 2
  • height modifier range 4-7mm: Perimeters: 3
  • Bottom solid layers: 2 (min. bottom shell thickness 0)
  • Top solid layers: 4 (min. top shell thickness 0)

the model weight shown after slicing should be around 4,2g

if you have adhesion problems use “outer brim only” (width 1mm)

Printsettings Stencil (important):

  • placement: on flat side, then turn x by 180°
  • Nozzle Diameter: 0.4mm
  • layer height: 0,1mm
  • Infill: 15%
  • Perimeters: 3
  • Supports needed “on build plate only”
  • use Brim

Assembly:

  1. bend hookeyes from stainless steel wire using round pliers
  2. place hookeyes and bearing balls as shown in one half
  3. apply superglue at hookeyes and on flat area. Leave a gap to the big BB
  4. place second half on top and press together using clamps or vise
  5. color to liking
  6. apply 5-7 layers of epoxy resin or similar topcoat you prefer
  7. let dry (ideally in rotating drying rack)
  8. clean hookeyes from excess epoxy resin
  9. add splitrings and hooks
