K1 MAX bed plate leveling with silicon columns and alluminium wheels

Hi,

I prefer to have a blue M4 thread alluminium wheels to squeeze the silicon columns, the printed version with the M4 insert, therefore I bought the cheap kit on on-line web store, where there were no: 4 columns to cut at 12 mm, no.: 4 Stainless steel M4x35 countersink screws and springs, but you don't need them.

The wheels are cool but you have to add a spacer, 9 mm is enough, please use the original spacers or print new one, I added a .stl,

Please, have a look also to wheels .stl , don't print it, i added it just to compare the measure in case you want to buy it, threre are several dimension, but this kit fitt my need.

The procedure to assembly the silicon columns instead of the locked black spacers, is the following:

• Since there is a loading cells under the bed, we cannot squeeze the silicon columns tightening the wheels as you want, therefore before dismount everything, my suggestion is to take a roughly measure between the resistance heading pad and the movable bed by a filler gauge or some spacer. This measure will help you to reproduce this measure when you will tighten the wheels. Please look on my picurest in order to understand the measure, I highlighted it with a blue line.

-remove the PEI plate

• remove the 4 bottom nuts that are locking the aluminum plate on the steel movable plate

-remove the related 4 countersink screws

• now the bed is free and unlocked, remove the black 9 mm round shims and put the silicon columns instead of such shims
• Add the new no.: 4 Stainless steel M4x40 countersink screws instead of the original screws one.
• Add the new blue wheel instead of the nuts
• Tighten the wheels in order to arrive at the original measure took at the beginning of such procedure.
• Now, you have to have a lot of patience, if you don’t have the root, means that you have to perform several times the auto-leveling procedure in order to visualize the bed map and adjust it consequently.

My suggestion is to heat the bed in order to arrive at 100 °C for 10 minutes, after that start the auto leveling, the deformation of the aluminum bed is strange.

With this update I arrive to have an error close to 0,2 mm instead of 0.8 or 1 mm, but please consider that I did this only because I’m a mechanical and I don’t like the misalignment 😊, this nice printer is able to correct an high misalignment with own built-in automation/software, my K1 MAX always printed very well with and without the alignment, means up to you if you want to applied this mod.
