If you're looking for my Bambu print profile, you'll find it at MW.

My wife often chooses to use very large thread spools for sewing, and they don't fit on the machine. Therefore they sit behind the machine. The biggest issue with this is that it ends up with the thread getting pinched when running through, never mind the spool getting tipped over. I designed this thread extension to her specifications.

It was meant to fit a Brother sewing machine, but will fit any sewing machine with a similar handle, as the clamp goes over the elliptical rod and has a screw to tighten it down somewhat. You can switch out for metallic screws, but there is a 3D printed screw design here as well.

The clamp opening is 20.5mm x 15.5mm elliptical shape and the shape is flexible to increase or decrease somewhat.

The clamp is separate from the extension rod (which fits into it with some clearance) so that a different style clamp can be designed if needed.

Printing recommendations:

  • Files are already oriented correctly.
  • 0.20-0.24mm layer height
  • 4 walls/shells
  • Gyroid 25% infill
  • No supports
  • You may want a brim for the extension rod as there's minimal contact with the bed, but it's able to print without it as well, and leaves less cleanup.
