Instructions

Place the thing that looks a bit like a stethoscope end on top of the ring with the weight at the end (no glue necessary), then move the other ring around on a flat surface with your finger.

I was watching someone playing with one of my spinning tops, and they couldn't get the hang of twisting the top to make it go -- all they did was move their finger back and forwards. I created this spinning toy to see if I could make something interesting out of such a movement.

I've discovered a couple of things by a bit of playing round with the printed model:

  • The pivot that attaches the smaller pendulum could be a bit wider. With a careless use of the spinner it tends to come free too easily.
  • The place for your finger is a tad too small. A couple more mm of radius on that should fix the problem. These changes are implemented in the v2 model.
