I have a lot of mechanical switches, from different brands and in different boxes. I got tired of having to keep the original boxes around, mainly so that their legs won't bend, so I asked my girlfriend to design these in Blender.

Since I have many switches, the organizers needed to be stackable, while ensuring that there would be no contact at all between switches that are on top of each other. To this end, each organizer has a set of insets on top, which is where the legs of the stacked organizer click into place. Additionally, after some horrible experiences ordering Cherry MX switches (which came in cheap cardboard boxes where all switches were loose, and some had their legs bent), I needed them to fit relatively tightly, so that they would not come off the organizer during normal movement (e.g. moving a box from point A to point B). The tabs in the organizer indicate north-south direction of the switches.

We originally printed 6 organizers in a 9x11 (rows by columns) layout, as the box that I was going to use could fit two sets of 3 stacked on top of each other, but she also designed other layouts. The available models are:

  • 9x11: fits 99 switches
  • 8x8: fits 64 switches
  • 8x3: fits 24 switches
  • 6x6: fits 36 switches

I have tested this with a variety of Cherry MX, Drop and Kailh choc v1 switches, and they all fit perfectly. All organizers were printed on PLA+, with no special settings (default STRUCTURAL @XLIS PrusaSlicer profile).

Use the default print orientation (legs facing upwards) to print them, no supports are needed.
