About
I always loved the SGI Octane. Sadly I don't have one, although they are available to this day in various condition and price, so I made my own interpretation to house the new Pi 5 with room for activities and weird tower cooler setups.
The SD card is barely accessible, personally I've never swapped SD's much but you could grab it with a pair of pliers, but there is a power button!
PS. If you do own SGI machines, please get a 3D scanner app on your phone or buy one, share the meshes and save this piece of good looking computing history.
Remixing
STEP files are included, I'd love to see what other people come up with modifying it.
Assembly and printing tips:
The lid is designed to be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle with the vent slats face down and no supports - there's a break away piece for the hdmi ports.
The base was printed with tree supports on a MK3+ and came out nicely without any cleanup needed.
Print the front curve piece on its flat edge without support for better quality on the front curves.
There are 1.8mm holes for indexing the pieces with a piece of filament, helps to open them up slightly after printing with a small phillips screwdriver. A dab of glue on the edges of the hexagon vent holds it together but this can be optional.
The power button just slots into the lid and is held captive in place by the board itself. A small piece of tape helps hold it in place during assembly.
Updates:
06/03/2024: Thinned the back of the lid to give some room for badly made HATs, and the HDMI port side of the case for badly made HDMI plugs. Increased the thickness of the front parts for easier assembly.
