Update: Optional version: top part of the box now has a recess that holds the key. (see picture). To get that, print “top-.stl”.

I created another gift card torture box - inspired by Bobby Thunders design, but slightly different:

The Box consists of two pieces only (top and bottom) and has a recess for a credit card-sized object.

The matching bolts are made using the “nut job” script by mattala at a total length of 30mm.

The nuts have been permanently fused to the bottom part. To do this, I printed the nuts first, then started the print of the bottom part, paused it after the hexagonal holes were complete (10mm height) and dropped the nuts in place. The print then continues and melts the next layer onto the nuts, securing them in place.

All printed in PLA, the box works with only 5% infill.

Parameters used for the bolts/nuts:

diameter/length of the thread: 12mm/20mm (12.8mm for the nut)
height/diameter of head and nut: 10mm/17mm

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

different design, all OpenSCAD, captured nuts, access to bolts in the corners is now equally restricted like for the bolts in the middle
matching key is provided, optional recess to store the key,
