With the Nextruder, you have two ways to change the nozzle - you can replace the entire hotend or just switch out the nozzle without removing the whole assembly.

However, changing just the nozzle involves some risk. You need to grip the heater block firmly as you unscrew the nozzle. If you put too much pressure on the nozzle that's still partially connected to the heat break, you might bend the nozzle tube. Also, the heater just hanging on the wires once the nozzle is removed is far from ideal.

This accessory secures the Nextruder's heater block firmly in place. It allows for rapid nozzle changes with minimal risk of bending the nozzle tube. The development of this accessory was inspired by IBNobody's Nozzle Change Heater Block Clamp.

The parts are divided into folders based on the printer configurations.

Print instructions

  • print settings: 0.20mm STRUCTURAL, 2 perimeters, 15% Grid infill
  • print material: PC Blend Carbon Fiber (you can use PETG if you don't have PCCF)

Required tools

  • Uni-wrench or HEX 7mm socket
  • Torx 8
  • Steel brush (for cleaning the nozzle and heaterblock)

XL Multi-tool Nozzle Replacement Tool - Installation Guide

 

 

Available Variants:

The XL Nozzle Replacement Tool comes in two variants:

  • Nozzle Replacement Tool - XL sock: For use with a hotend that has a silicone sock.
  • Nozzle Replacement Tool - XL: For use with a hotend without a silicone sock.

Safety and Preparation:

WARNING: Ensure the printer is completely cooled to ambient temperature before beginning installation. Attempting to install the Nozzle Replacement Tool on a hot printer can result in serious injury due to burns.

TIP: To prevent damage to the print surface by dropping an object, it is recommended to cover it with a protective layer (e.g. piece of cloth, thick cardboard).

 

Installation:

  • Unload the filament from the Nextruder.
  • Make sure that the heaterblock is clean.
  • Turn the printer OFF.
  • Slide the XL Nozzle Replacement Tool into the XL holder. Make sure that bottom surfaces are aligned.

 

  • Carefully take off the tool head from the dock.
  • Using the T8 Torx key loosen the grub screw securing the hotend assembly in the Nextruder. 
  • Do not remove the grub screw, a few turn are enough.

 

 

  • Position the hotend according to the same angle as the rectangular opening in the assembly.
  • Carefully slide the Nozzle Replacement Tool assembly all the way on the hotend.

 

  • Manually move the Y-axis all the way to the front.
  • Hang the Nozzle Replacement Tool assembly on the X-carriage.

 

  • Tip: It’s recommended to place it approximately to the center of the axis
  • Now, you can easily release the nozzle.

 

  • CAUTION: After replacing the nozzle, do not forget to tighten the grub screw securing the hotend in the Nextruder!
  • To release the Nozzle Replacement Tool, press the latch located at the rear side of the part with your fingers while simultaneously pulling on it.

  • Make sure the heatbed is in the lowest possible position.
  • Unload the filament
  • Turn the printer OFF.
  • Manually move the Y-axis all the way to the front and the X-carriage with the Nextruder to the center of the axis.
  • Using the T8 Torx key loosen the grub screw securing the hotend assembly in the Nextruder. Do not remove the grub screw, a few turn are enough.
  • Position the hotend according to the same angle as the rectangular opening in the assembly.
  • From the bottom of the Nextruder, carefully slide the XL Nozzle Replacement Tool on the hotend’s heaterblock.
  • Ensure the bottom surfaces of the Nozzle Replacement Tool and the heaterblock are aligned.
  • Now, you can easily release the nozzle.
  • CAUTION: After replacing the nozzle, do not forget to tighten the grub screw securing the hotend in the Nextruder!
  • To release the Nozzle Replacement Tool, press the latch located at the rear side of the part with your fingers while simultaneously pulling on it.
