This model was the winning entry in E3D Toolchanger STL Design Competition April 2019, (Competition Details)

I have created a chest for 3D printing enthusiasts to store all of their valuable treasure, i.e. NOZZLES! You can store up to 15 nozzles in the chest. Nozzle holes fit standard E3D V6 6mm threaded nozzles. The model uses 4 filaments and prints in place without supports. The first three filaments used are standard PLA and the fourth is a flex PLA. I used the flex PLA in four ways:

  1. Flexible chest hinges
  2. A flexible lip around the nozzle hole to allow you to easily push in and pull out nozzles
  3. Friction fit for nozzle labels
  4. A non-slip base

You can also print this in a single color of PLA if you do not have multiple material capability.

Note: The multi colored print photographed above is an older version, but it is pretty close, just a few tweaks. However, the current version has been printed in single color and confirmed to function correctly. Also, please excuse the under extrusion and missed layers (4 Silver, 1 Gold. 1 Brown), had a clogged nozzle early on and still waiting for my MMU2S upgrade. Not going to attempt a 20hr print again until I running the 2S.

Features:

  • No support material needed!
  • FlexPLA is locked in place in case of delamination with captured chamfers.
  • Multi material nozzle size labels can be inserted into lid to keep track of which nozzle are placed where
  • Print-in-place flexible hinges for lid latches
  • Nozzle decal on chest lid
  • I seperated the rivets into there own file so they could be printed in FlexPLA for a rubbery feel (MMU2 users beware). Or, use a fifth color for even more contrast.
*The chest can be "locked" by inserting 1.75mm filament through the latches
  • If users don't have multi material capability it can be printed in a single color and will still operate.
