I needed a way to keep our friend's small dog out of my office but allow my cats to pass through. I wanted something removable and easy to operate so I made this latch to slide on the door and catch the door stop holding the door in place.

Simply push the rail inwards to release the door. In order to provide a solid grip on the door, I used a piece of fabric, 0.05in thick x 3.15in long (2mm x 80mm) to fit between the latch and the door. The force of the latch is easy enough to overpower so it probably wont work for bigger dogs or small children.

My door is 1.39in thick (35.3mm) and my door stop is 1.29in (33mm) with a 2 in (50.8mm) door jam so that is what parts are designed for. I made 2 openings sizes, 3.5in (89mm) and 4.5in (114.5mm) while testing and they both seem to work well enough. The Solidworks file and a Step file are included so you can adjust as needed.

Please note that the leading edge will slide against the door stop when closing and should slide out of the way. Also, please be smart with regard to fire safety.

Enjoy!
