I feel bad to throw away all my instax square film cartridge, so I made this origami-style clip-on stand to turn the cartridge into a very nice frame. The model is easy to print and easy to install.

Tested with 0.2mm and 0.25mm layer height. The folding was easy and the hinge did not break.

Steps to turn the cartridge into photo frame:

  • Instert the photo into the cartridge. There is a thin membrane covering the entry slot. You can use the corner of your photo to pry it open.
  • After printing the model, carefully fold the two wings around the folding line and cross them. Clip the stand on the back of the cartridge and you have a frame.

Both portrait and landscape orientations should work.

I am not sure if this also works for the standard instax film as I only have an instax square camera. If any one of you could try it on the standard cartridge / provide me with the dimensions, I will be very happy to make a standard version as well.
