This is a remix of LoboCNC's caliper design. Full credit to him for creating an excellent model. All i did was mirror the markings and orientation of the tool.

This version has been optimized for use by left-handers. No need to adjust it with your right hand, hold it at an awkward angle to use. or invert the tool to get a reading.

Also, it doesn't cost 4x as much, as a right-handed version!

Detailed assembly and usage guide can be found on LoboCNC's link. Quick summary

  1. Slide the slider onto the tool body.
  2. Screw on the dial (scale first)
  3. Attach retaining clip to the bottom of dial
  4. Press end cap into place
  5. Close jaws snugly and use an ultrafine marker to mark the “zero” point for the external measurements (big jaws)
  6. For internal measurements (small jaws) hold jaws shut while adjusting the dial slightly. Depending on how much play there is in the threads on your print, you may need to mark a different “zero” point
  7. to use the  calipers, adjust the dial and take the "main reading (2mm accuracy) at the top of the jaws. Additional precision is obtained from the reading on the dial.

I printed in PLA with 0.2mm layers with 0.4mm nozzle and no supports in the orientation provided. The threads can be a little snug at first and will need to be worked a little (and/or lubricated) before they turn freely.

enjoy!

Differences of the remix compared to the original

The scale and orientation of the tool has been mirrored, making it much more useable by left-handers.
