My requirements:

  • simple workflow to load/unload filament
  • possibility to manually push/pull the filaments to fix failed loads/unloads (yes it happens)
  • weights guided during printing (and always tidy and at hand when unused)
  • weights can be installed/uninstalled while filament is loaded
  • whole setup attached to the enclosure (and therefore movable with it)
  • quick and tool free disassembly of the printer
  • reliable… hopefully

All parts printed in PETG except end-caps in TPU.

Needed furniture

Spool holders

  • 24mmx24mm aluminum profiles for the spool holders main supports
    • parts are provided for what I had in stock: 23.7mmx23.7mm square
    • scale on X and Y to fit your exact dimensions
  • x10 6001 bearings:
    • inner diameter: 12mm
    • outer diameter: 28mm
    • width: 8mm
  • M12 threaded rods as axles
  • M12 washers, nuts and nyloc nuts for the spool holders assembly

PTFE tubes guides

  • 10mmx1mm aluminum tubes
  • x20 M4x5.7x4.6 threaded inserts
  • M4x40 hexagonal bolts if you use the provided long-neck printed knobs
  • otherwise any M4x20 bolts

Weights

  • in case you want to use the weights guides:
    • any ~4mm metal rods and build a hook out of them
    • or as I did, hooks used for plaster ceiling suspensions (see photo
  • otherwise any kind of weight should do the job

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

  • replaced the original spool holders with a bearing flavor.
  • added a set of PTFE tubes holders
  • set of simple weight guides
