An easy to print and assemble winder tool for Makita line trimmers.

After tearing a ligament in my wrist I've found it particularly painful to wind line onto my trimmer. This motivated me to build a tool to add some leverage and lighten the load.

Modelled on the Makita Ezy-work 102mm Nylon Head (part 191D89-4 or similar) that's on the Makita EM409MP Line Trimmer attachment. Probably on a bunch of other Makita trimmers too. See the photo to check if it looks like yours.

Printing and Assembly:

  • No supports required
  • No additional parts required
  • 15% Infill, 4 walls, .20mm layer height
  • I printed in PETG, but PLA is likely fine too
  • All three parts can be printed on one plate
  • Knob snaps into handle
  • Handle press-fits into head with light force if your tolerances are right

Usage:

  1. Line up the grooves on the trimmer head with the tool and push on - tool is tapered and grabs on as you push it down
  2. Either hold the trimmer head stationary or use the trimmer's included allen key to lock the head in place
  3. Wind away!
