I often switch between two wheel rims for rally and GT/Formula, and it often bothered me having to unscrew the WEIPU USB connector and attach it to the other wheel.
As I watched the review of another wheel with a magnetic connector, I had the idea to build a magnetic connector for my needs.
Spent some time in Tinkercad, and this is the result.
Due to the long lever, the original version was prone to pick up vibrations from the wheel base (e.g. when driving Rally) and lost connection for a split second every now and then. No fundamental issue, but the Windows USB sound was a bit nerve wrecking.
Version 2 mitigates this issue by a shorter and more sturdy construction, also now the connectors meet in an angle which is more in alignment with the movements of the quick release parts when being attached or detached.
Thanks to a fellow redditor who volunteered as a guinea pig, this 1mm shorter version fits the 40mm distance of the original Buchfink Q1R.
With the support of Philip and the arrival of a black QR set from the DynoRacing Store, I was able to mitigate the issue of this version's slightly off tolerances. Maybe due to the paint or other causes, this QR's distance is not exactly 42mm, but up to .5mm less.
I added two additional versions with .15 / .25 less height for balance.
When mounted without the magnetic connectors installed yet, the faces of the 3D printed parts should be exactly parallel and 6mm apart.
The connectors are available at AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005605267060.html (4pin with ear 2.54mm)
I attached the connectors with M1.5 screws.
