This 3D print allows you to replace the fixed egg-axis of the Sphere-o-Bot (eggbot) with an easily adjustable mechanism, which makes it possible to adjust the distance between the suction cups, so that different sized eggs/objects can be loaded easily without changing parts or using different springs.

I used a suction cup with a built in thread and a relatively long spring (35mm wide, 9mm in diameter), with a short spring (<20mm) this print is not well usable.

Building Instructions:

1) Print all parts. I used PLA on a Prusa mks3+ with 0.10mm DETAIL setting. The following parts need special attention:

  • Spindle: print it with the wider part down and “Support on Print Bed only”

  • Adjustment Wheel: The adjustment wheel is the part you need to put the most attention on - it is a print in place part, consisting of the “socket”, which is later attached to the frame of the eggbot, and the free rotatable “wheel”, which holds the spindle when the parts are assembled.

The distances between the parts of this print in place part are very narrow, to avoid too much leeway. Make sure you print this in 0.10mm DETAIL quality. Also print it with “Support on Print Bed only”. Once printed, you have to remove all the small supports in the wheel.

Make sure you remove all support parts completely and that no debris is left. It can happen that it still blocks, so hold the socket with pliers and move the wheel until it unblocks.

2) Attach the Suction cup to the Suction Cup Holder.

3) Attach the threaded steel rod to the Suction Cup Holder.

4) Attach the spring.

5) Attach the Spacer, with the small ring facing away from the spring.

6) Put the 623 ball bearing into the Spindle.

7) Put the Spindle with the bearing on the threaded steel rod.

8) Put the Axis Support on the Spindle.

9) Put the whole thing into the eggbot frame and fix the Axis Support on the eggbot frame.

10) Put the Adjustment Wheel on the Spindle and fix the socket of the Adjustment Wheel on the eggbot frame.

Done :-) have fun :-)
