I needed a spool holder for winding filament onto another spool. I could not find just what I was looking for so I have modified Danimal_FPV's design,
raised the top of the forks which hold the axel, to make it less likely to jump out. There are spindles in various sizes to allow spools with large holes to rotate smoothly.
Joiners for Multiple spool holders
There is a joiner to link two spools in series for winding filament from one onto the other.
Also a joiner to link spools in parallel as you may need in a dry box or feeding printers with multiple extruders. The joiners may be attached to the spool holder bases with M4 x 16mm machine screws and nylock nuts (or the imperial equivalent).
PLA is a good material to use for this because it provides a slippery and durable surface for the rotating bearings. You need good layer adhesion so do not print in ABS.
I was in a hurry to print this so I used a 0.8mm nozzle and 0.3mm layer height. This gave me issues of the plastic curling about three quarters of the way up the print as you can see from the photograph. If you use a standard 0.4mm nozzle and not more than 0.25mm layer height it will be okay.
Spindles are provided in various diameters from 50mm to 76mm. Print the one which is closest to but smaller than the hole in your filament spool.
