This is a spool holder to attach filament rolls on the side of a QIDI X-Max 3 printer.

I created it to be compatible to the modular tool holder of @humebeam which unfortunately didnt hold well on my X-Max 3 printer (see https://www.printables.com/de/model/59201-qidi-x-max-modular-tool-holder )

So my insert may hold better if you are using more or heavier tools if you also have trouble with this :)

It works with even the widest spools I had in stock + more space (see pictures), so I hope every spool will work.

All parts can be printed with no support.

Whats so nice about this?

I really like, that its easily accessible and changing filament spools can be done really quickly.

Its a big plus, that you can still keep the original spool box on the back side.

So for PLA, PETG, ASA/ABS, TPU and “normal” filaments I use the side spool holder.

For nylon and other more demanding materials I use the back side, so its really as usable as possible for me - and I hope you enjoy it too :)

What you need:

  • print every part once
  • 4x M3 screws (I recommend a length between 30-50mm)
  • (recommended) One 90mm piece of 4mm bowden tube (but its not needed. you can simply mount if upside down, if you dont have a spare bowden)
  • (optional) 4 small pieces of double sided tape

I recommend using 4 small pieces of double sided tape at the locations shown in the pictures.

This increases friction and makes it very sturdy.

The "tensioner" was printed in TPU but I think it might be possible to print it as the rest in PLA (which I did).

If you have trouble, please leave a comment and I will modify it :)
